Now here’s an opportunity to know the discuss the issues and status quo of Philippine lesbian literature. Frankly, I am saddened on the status of lesbian literature here in the Philippines. Why? Because there are only a few lesbian resources that talk about lesbianism here in the Philippines. Most of the LGBT literature here are mostly centered on gays. I believe that this kind of forum should be attended by writers and even researchers to know where the weaknesses and strengths are. Too bad I can’t attend because I have to be in Australia on the scheduled date of the forum.
By the way, the Ishmael Bernal Gallery is at the back of UP Cine Adarna (Film Center). Everybody is welcome to attend whether lesbian or not.
The new season of Pinoy Big Brother just started and one of our sisters in the Pinoy LGBT community is part of it. Ms. Rica Paras, of Society of Transsexual Women of the Philippines (STRAP), has just became a housemate. This is something that I am looking forward to see in the upcoming episodes of Pinoy Big Brother. I hope that her being a part of the show will enable to let the public understand our basic issues and get a different perspective in mainstream media. It’s seldom that mainstream media showcases our plight but let’s see in the upcoming episodes. But anyway let’s support our sister!
Here is the statement of STRAP (taken from my orgmate in Babaylan, Mushy Mae): Continue reading “Rica Paras of STRAP in Pinoy Big Brother Double Up!”
One of the icons of the global LGBT community, Stephen Gately of Boyzone, died at 33 while he was having his vacation in Majorca, Spain. He was with his partner Andrew Cowles whom he wed through a civil union in 2006. The cause of death is still unknown. There are stories that say that he just went out for a few drinks then came back to the hotel to sleep but he never woke up.
He admitted his sexuality in 1999 through The Sun by admitting that he was in a relationship with Eloy de Jong, a member of boyband called Caught in the Act. Their relationship ended in 2002. His partner, Andrew Cowles, was introduced to him through mutual friends Elton John and David Furnish. Continue reading “Stephen Gately Dies at 33”
